Marketing Truths (from the inside)

The Truth About Marketing – from the inside
Each week, we give you an insight into the facts about marketing and try to unravel the realities from the tangled web of jargon, sales speak and general bull that marketing has been wrapped up in for so long!
1. Marketing is a waste of time!
This is almost entirely true.
If you don’t do it properly, your time would be better spent putting your feet up with a hot cocoa and watching an old movie on daytime TV!
Marketing, in all of its forms, is a specialised profession in its own right. If you make rubber widgets for a living, then get on with making rubber widgets – because that is what you do best. You’re good at it!
Don’t listen to all the claptrap on social media about saving trillions of dollars and earning six figure amounts from using some unknown techniques for a small fee of $25. It’s all a load of codswallop!
Whatever strategies are used to promote your business or service, they must be calculated, measured and, most importantly, specifically tailored to your particular business.
No two businesses are alike. Even those in the same industry. As business owners, we are individuals and bring our own values to bear on our businesses. There is no such thing as a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
Marketing takes time. It takes skill, talent and experience. That doesn’t mean it has to be costly – but it has to be done right, otherwise the time wasted is time you will never get back to invest in what you do best – running your business.
