Process optimisation in manufacturing using simulation

Discrete event simulation (DES) provides a method for simulating the behaviour and performance of real-life processes, a facility or system. It’s a tool you can use to effectively test, compare, and experiment with various scenarios and parameters (in a virtual environment) to surface process issues and improvements.

DES has existed for decades. Increasing computing power and improving software coding techniques has enabled advances and improvement in DES, making the software more sophisticated, visually appealing and user friendly. Applications for DES vary widely. Nowadays we see DES being used in many different industries – manufacturing, health services, transportation, urban systems to name a few. There is a variety of software that exists for DES modelling, at varying levels of expense. But, would you believe the software is free?

In this webinar the Advanced Manufacturing Industry 4.0 Hub will introduce you to a free open source DES software called Jaamsim. We will provide you with an overview of Jammsim’s simulation capabilities and show you how it can be used for process optimisation and line balancing (beyond using Excel spreadsheets) using a case study, and other publicly sourced examples. You will see that you don’t need any 3D modelling or coding skills to get started; just a curiosity to learn, a few basic skills and a process focus.

Who should attend.

Recommended for small to medium sized Victorian businesses in manufacturing and process related industries (e.g. Food & Beverage, Meat processing, Dairy, Agri-business, Defence, Pharmaceuticals etc) – for senior leaders, managers and process/production engineers in innovation and operations.

You will be provided with additional information and a link to access the online webinar via eventbrite email 24 hours prior to the event. Ensure contact details are entered correctly during registration. Please check your spam/junk folder in case the emails are diverted there.
